തീരദേശ ശുചീകരണ ദിനത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി വിഴിഞ്ഞം കോസ്റ്റ് ഗാർഡ് സ്റ്റേഷൻ്റെ നേതൃത്വത്തിൽ കോവളം ഹവ്വാ ബീച്ചിൽ ശുചീകരണ പ്രവർത്തനം നടത്തി. തിരുവനന്തപുരം സിറ്റി പോലീസ് കമ്മീഷണർ .തോംസൺ ജോസ്, IPS ശുചീകരണ യജ്ഞം ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു. എൻ.സി.സി, അദാനി ഗ്രൂപ്പ്, ലുലു ഗ്രൂപ്പ്, സാഗര ബീച്ച് റിസോർട്ട് എന്നിവരും പങ്കാളികളായി.
എല്ലാ വർഷവും സെപ്റ്റംബർ മാസത്തിലെ മൂന്നാമത്തെ ശനിയാഴ്ച ആഗോളതലത്തിൽ ആചരിക്കുന്നതാണ് തീരദേശ ശുചീകരണ ദിനം.
മുനിസിപ്പൽ കോർപ്പറേഷൻ വകുപ്പ് വഴി ആകെ 480 കിലോഗ്രാം മാലിന്യങ്ങൾ ശേഖരിച്ച് സംസ്കരിച്ചു. കോസ്റ്റ് ഗാർഡ് വൈവ്സ് വെൽഫെയർ അസോസിയേഷൻ (CGWWA) വിഴിഞ്ഞം, ക്രൈസ്റ്റ് കോളേജ്, ദേശീയ പരിസ്ഥിതി സംരക്ഷണ ടീം, കോസ്റ്റൽ പോലീസ്, കോവളം പോലീസ് എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നുള്ള ഏകദേശം 350 വാളണ്ടിയർമാരാണ് ശുചീകരണ യജ്ഞത്തിൽ പങ്കെടുത്തത്. തീരദേശ മലിനീകരണത്തിന്റെ ദോഷകരമായ ഫലങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച് അവബോധം വളർത്തുക/ പ്രചരിപ്പിക്കുക, മാലിന്യങ്ങളുടെ അപകടങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ചും ജോലിസ്ഥലത്തും കളിസ്ഥലങ്ങളിലും ചുറ്റുമുള്ള ജലാശയങ്ങളിലും അവ ചെലുത്തുന്ന സ്വാധീനത്തെക്കുറിച്ചും പൊതുജനങ്ങളിൽ അവബോധം സൃഷ്ടിക്കുക എന്നിവയാണ് ഈ ശുചീകരണ യജ്ഞത്തിന്റെ ലക്ഷ്യം.
